Don't want them there.
1-Don't want people knowing the truck is tuned
2-Don't want the wife using the steering wheel to pull herself in when the O/S handle is replaced with gauges.
I put my tranny temp gauge to the right of the steering wheel. Looks great. And there's plenty of room behind it. You can even leave the dash on there and use a dremel to cut out how much you need (on the right side that is, not sure about the left).
The pillars do look nice though. But I only needed/wanted one gauge so the pillar wouldn't have been filled up like you diesel guys could use. No boost and don't care about my egt's on my V10.
I have a SPA digital with Boost over Pyro in an Autometer pod on the column. check my gallery for the pictures of it. It fits over the coulumn and can either be double sided taped or chrismas treed to the column. the wires run down the top under the cluster. It took 1/2 an hour to mount it and run the wiring through the fire wall.
I just did this,, a real PITA on the left side, the right side was a breeze. Boost had to go on the right due to back spacing and the cooper fitting for the boost line. On the left side the bottom right corner is the most room but it will be blocked from view with the signal lever. I got mine in the upper portion of the flat spot but had to do some minor trimming of the bracing behind the dash and then trim all the bolts off of the gauge for it to fit flush. Pics are in my Gallery. I had a thread going while i did this, just a couple weeks ago. The dash does just snap off after you remove the radio,, then you have to unplug the light switch and the 4x4 switch before you can completely remove it. If you take the lower section of the dash off under the wheel then remove the 4 bolts that hold the fuse box up and drop it down you can see up in there pretty good. I did this before i did anything. I do like the way it turned out though, i can see my gauges perfectly with shifter in drive too. Heres a couple of links to the threads,
I bought a tranny temp gauge for my 99 F250. I just got the Autometer "cup" and mounted it on the steering column. Worked great. Easy to see, but doesn't get in the way either.
