Im trying to change an 85 F 250 from 2wd to 4wd
Hey
I recently bought an "85" Frod F 250. I am rebuilding the truck. I have recently bought a new 351 that i plan to put in it. My problem is this. The truck is 2 wheel drive and i want to make it 4 wheel drive. I know this is going to be a project and a half but im determined. Can anyone tell me what parts ill need to obtain? Also if anyone has any tips on where to find the parts or how to do this job, id appreciate it.
Thanks
Randy

If I were to do this job look for an 82-86 F250 or F350 4x4 truck with a horrible body and a shot engine. Then swap bodies, put in your 351 and there you have your 4x4. OR take the front axle tranny and transfer case out of the 4x4 and swap them in, either way you do this it will be a lot of work but if you are determined and have the $ go for it. Good Luck.

For the F250, the 4x4 swap is a bit more complicated, you can start swapping in the 4x4 F250 stuff(leaf spring mounts and all that fun stuff, and end up with a front end that doesn't have much travel, and the entire design doesn't make much sense, or, you can use a F150 front end, converted to 8 lugs, with the existing coil springs. It is alot easier to do(bolts in pretty much the same as it would on an F150), and, the difference in stregnth isn't really that much of an issue, if it is, you should be going after a solid D60 out of an F350 anyway...
