I have a 77 f250 4x4. I have found a 74 8 foot bed which I have nearly finished repairing. All the cross members are in great shape except the rearmost which runs from fender to fender across the frame under the rear roll pan and has two holes that the bolts pass through to attach the bed to the frame. This cross member is done/gone/ rusted away I have a piece of angle iron welded across, under the roll pan and up into the stake pockets. This firmed it up a bit but the fenders still flex. Is there a correct name for this part? Can I buy one? Has anyone fabed one up? Seems like the metal used in this part of the truck is too light and corrodes faster than any other part. Heck there isn't even any rust over the wheel wheels.
I want this truck to be the best that I can make it, not a show truck but concidering that the bed is more than half the truck I want is straight and long lasting. I have one quote for repairs at a shop, ouch. I'll do it if I have too but prefer a less expensive solution.
