After finally getting my thermostat housing to stop leaking by replacing the thermostat housing, I now see that there is a leak just above and to the left of the housing. After driving the truck about a mile, I opened the hood and there was coolant spewing. There appears to be a gasket there, but I am not certain. I have a 1993 F150 equipped with a 5.8L. Has anyone else had this problem? What to do? Thanks in advance for your responses.
yes there is a gasket for there. Just replaced water pump and therm. a few weeks ago. They are sold seperate from the therm. About 3$ You probably have a bad gasket or cut in the old one. Make sure housing Isnt cracked also
Thanks for your response. However, it is not the thermostat housing. I have replaced the thermostat housing and gasket and there are no leaks there. This is how I know that there is a leak that is "northwest" of the thermostat housing. It is under other stuff and difficult to get to and see. It seems to be coming from the edge of the aluminum housing that the thermostat housing bolts into. Thanks.
intake mainfold gasket leaking where it joins the head. Water dows flow back in to the intake on its way to the radiator from the heads. Ford has had some issues with this you will have to pull the intake and replace the gasket.
wtroger, Thanks for your response. Is this a major job? I'm equipped about as well as any Mechanics shop, however, my skill level is not as good a my tools. I'm not afraid to tackle any job. Alter all, the worst thing that can happen is that I will have one more junk car. Thanks again.
I tackled the task of replacing the intake manifold gasket. I have so many parts lying in my garage that I don't know if I will ever get it back together. I found that I not only had coolant leaking, but oil also. There were two bolts that were broken and had been some time. In addition, I broke one in removing the manifold. Now I have to attempt to drill out these three bolts.
I have read all of the posts on Intake Manifold gasket replacement that I could find on this forum going back to 2002. No one talked about the broken bolt problem or drilling them out. Any successful techniques on this would be appreciated.
The old gasket had metal parts to it. The replacement that I got from Carquest is four pieces with no metal trim. Should I find one like the metal trimmed one I am repalcing? There was some type of gasket sealer that is a **ith to scrape off. Is there a solvent that works? It is a whiteish color. Mine is the fuel injected 351, do the fuel injectors have to be replaced? Thanks for your help.
