Hi all....well with all the "vibe and nibble" complaints I read I was beginning to believe I had a near perfect "04 S.cab as havent had the probs I am reading about.
However tonight I left the truck with Park brakes applied while in a movie, temp. -3 celsius. When driving home an incredible heavy vibration started in the rear, almost seemed like a flat tire so stopped and checked 4 wheels, all were fully inflated, however the right rear had a strong smell coming from it, didnt smell like asbestos burning but on closer inspection the rotor was too hot to touch and had a bluish tint. Seems like the pads on that wheel were not releasing. Anyone had this sympton..of course I will be taking it in tomorrow to dealer.
I might offer a guess. -3 deg C = 26 deg F, below freezing, although not frigid. If you had driven through water or slushy conditions on the way to the movie theatre, parked and set the emergency (parking) brake as you stated, I've seen the emergency brake cable freeze and will not release the emergency brake even when you pull the handle in the cab of the truck. You probably were driving down the road with your rear brake applied. The power of your motor can overcome the power of the brakes and allow this to happen. Unfortunately, you might need new rotors and pads in the rear. Turning blue is a sight of excessive heat and no doubt warped the rotors.
I saw a Camaro one wintery day running down the road with smoke rolling off the rear wheels. Emergency brake froze up and he just kept on going!
