i havnt had a chance too look at my brakes yet, but there touchy as hell. the brake peddle moves really easily too. the brakes work good if im careful, and they dont squeel, or lock up(unless i push too hard) or anything. just wondering what could cause this. Thanks in advance.
Do your brakes tend to get touchy when it is humid, rainy, or after you have been driving in rain? I have been told that your brake pads can swell due to moisture. I replaced the shoes and/or bought better quality brakes. Also make sure the rubber plug is in the adjuster hole (backside of hub).
As Ryan said it is probably just in the morning or when it has rained. You get moisture on the shoes and they tend to "grab" easier on the drum. It should go away after driving for a bit. Same things happens on all the trucks at work (about 5 of them). Good luck!
What ones lock up? I would take the back drums off and check for a leaking wheel cylinder. It could be putting brake fluid on the shoe which will make them grip the drum easier which will make them lock up. Maybe they are adjusted too tight? And ho wlong have you had this truck? Last year when I first got my truck it did the same thing but it was just because I was not used to the new brakes. Might be another thought. Takes some time getting used to. Good luck!
I just got the truck last week, but i know they shouldnt be this touchy. they dont really lock up though. I took the drums off my dodge dakota and there was gear oil everywhere, made them lock up, went through a hellluva time to get the axle out. So i'll have a look at em soon, im going to pull the engine ayway so i have lots of time. thanks everybody
my 86 f250 2wd has realy touchy brakes. turned out the be the weight propotioning valve linkage, there was a box mounted above the rear diff that adjusted how much pressure the rear brakes recieved with how much the suspension was saging, the linkage was supposta come down from the box and bolt to the diff cover but the old owner had just unbolted it from the cover and zap straped it up to the frame, giving the rear brakes full power all the time. it made the truck a lot nicer to drive when i connected it

I thought the exact same thing when I got my truck. I would press them just a but and they would really grab. But, after I got used to the truck it didn't do it. Different trucks have different characteristics. Just my thought.
