what am I doing wrong???

I'm trying to install the Superchips 1715 on my wife's '03 Expy with the 4.6. I removed the fuse for the fuel pump, and hooked the tuner up to the truck.

When I turn the ignition on, as prompted by the tuner, one of the relays in the fuse panel starts making an awful humming sound. The tuner then displays an error message of "communication error, check connection".

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? I've installed the tuner on my '00 SD w/ V10 with no problems...(I've reinstalled the stock tune to my SD so the tuner is not VIN locked)

Thanks.

Humming sound..... That makes me think you got the wrong fuse pulled and you're hearing the fuel pump.

I pulled fuse #34, which, according to the manual, controls the fuel pump, relay, and other things associated with the fuel system.

Do you have documentation of a different fuse that needs to be pulled?

Thanks Ken.

No, I don't. Is it doing this with every time or just that one time it was programmed?

Hey Ken,

I figured it out...Just me being stupid and not reading the user manual for the tuner close enough.

Just to let you know... On the '03+ Expy's, the fuel system is disabled by a large plug under the hood on the passenger side against the firewall. There are three large plugs, and the fuel system is the middle one.

Once I did this, it connected fine. I uploaded the performance program, with the default settings, and it programmed with no problems.

By the way, the 4.6 really does perform better with the program. I've noticed improvements from a stand still, and also getting on it at 55mph. With my wife's driving, she should get an increase in mpg too (as long as I'm not driving it much). She didn't even notice the improvement until I drove it and showed her (but she was impressed).

Thanks.

Okay, so many different systems. I'll file that away. The 03's Expy's are a blacksheep child in a way. Not quite CAN bus, not quite EEC-V.
