help-which chip please?

OK- Fiance has a 01 F250 SD 7.3L, 4" lift and 35" tires. K&N air filter and the Hypertech--dont yell (lol). has been fine, no probs except the CPS.

We went to TX and bought an 01 EX 7.3L with 4" lift and 35's also, added the K&N air filter. For the trip home we added the Hypertech(as you can see we just joined-found this site) on the way home the service engine soon light came on, we had a snap on diagnostic with us, and the P1249 came up, called a mechanic friend and he said the Turbo wastegate etc. Get to Pensacola Ford dealer, get rid of Hypertech and the code is GONE- no service light, no codes on snap on machine... Hmmmmmmm weird to us..

So we come home all the way back to SWFL, and all is well.

He did install the Hypertech back on his SD and all is fine....So for the time being that one is staying..

But on the EX we are so torn between the Superchips and Diablo, this is pretty much new to us also... We mostly have done stuff with the Stangs, 98 Cobra and 95 GT.....

Sooo please can I have a detailed list of pro's cons between the 2... and exactly what 3 guages should we get? Boost, EGT and what else? We dont do any serious towing.. only sometimes, but mostly looking for better mileage,,,.

Eventually we will be doing mods on the trucks but not right now.. other than some of these minor things...

I have been reading the forums, but some things are so scattered here and there... PLEASE... help a newbie out here.....
Thanks millions
J & P

Sounds like the guy at the dealer doesn't know a thing about chips/tuners.

Its perfectly normal for any diesel chip, tuner or fueling box to give a wastegate code. The wastegate is there to bleed off excess boost above the amount Ford determines. Chips/tuners/fueling boxes give power by increasing boost. Get into the throttle, the service engine light comes on. Stay off the throttle for a while, the light goes away. Just ignore it.

Pros and cons... I've answered that dozens and dozens of times in this forum section. Check out the search function. Unfortunately the constraints on my time right now are bad and it would take me an hour to post out the differences. You may also want to get opinions in the 7.3 section.

Its perfectly normal for a Hypertech, a Diablo, Superchips, or any tuner/chip to give a service engine soon light. Its caused by higher than normal boost levels and is normal. The wastegate bleeds off excess boost... the chip causes additional boost. Sounds like the guy at the dealer doesn't know a thing about how these things work!

A good place to start with comparisions is the 7.3 forum because right now my time is severly constrained and it would take an hour to post it all.
