I just bought a used 97 f-350. cc, 4x4 e40d it needs a new bed in a bad way. how hard is it for me to take it off and put a new one, and what do i need to know. specal tools, and such. thanks much J
There are bolts that hold the bed to the frame, right in the bottom of the bed. The newer body style are torx, but the older ones probably are too... Also, the mount for the fuel filler has to be unbolted, but other than checking to make sure no wire runs or lines are clipped/screwed somewhere under the bed, that's it... I pulled the bed on my 2000 Ranger in under 1 hour (Those bed bolts are very, VERY tight, and have lock-tite on them to boot, make sure you put some back on before you re-install)...
Can you loosen the bolts from the top? or do you have to do it from the bottem? I thought that that they were just carage bolts, on the bed side, thanks for the info J
Like I said, I don't know if the older ones were different or not, but mine were torx bolts from the top. They screwed into threaded inserts in the frame (no wrench needed on the bottom. My 2000 F-250 is the same. If you have a spray/roll on bedliner, the bolt heads may be filled with liner....
you need to remove your tail lights and the wiring also. And the fuel fill lines like rancha said. the bed isnt heavy its just awkward. 2 could do it but it would be best with 3 or 4.
