Intercooler ?

Hey guys, I have a dumb question.

When I bought my '02 F250 PSD the salesman made it a point to mention it had an intercooler. I have read some about these, but was wondering exactly what they are and what they do?

Thanks

An intercooler is basically a heat exchanger. The intercooler in a PSD is an air to air cooler. That means it uses the cooler ambient outside air to cool the hot air going into the intake. Turbos compress air ( boost ), compressing air also heats the air, this hot air is then routed through the intercooler ( technically an aftercooler in this case ) to be cooled before entering the engine. If your looking for it under the hood its the big silver thing that kinda looks like a radiator with a tube entering on each side near the headlights. The tubes are probably covered in an oily black residue.

cool air is denser than hot air, thus you can force more into the intake. More air, better.
At least that is my understanding.
