Thumbs up New here...with a question

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I'm glad I found this forum, it looks like a great place to hangout.

I have a 2003 Explorer XLT V-8. I recently did a stupid thing and backed into a small pole that was supporting a chain in a downtown Kansas City parking area. I didn't see it and got hasty and..well..you know. The pole left a four inch vertical tear in my rear bumper (painted grey) on the passenger side, and contacted the rear hatch making a small scuff area on the lift gate, and a dime size dent in the hatch itself.

I've been trying to locate cheap parts for the repair, or at least find out what is involved in getting it fixed. I'm not sure if the bumper can be patched and repainted or whether the bumper cover has to be replaced. Does anyone know?

If I have to replace it, where should I go for the bumper cover? I have looked online and havent' had much luck. I don't want to submit this to my insurance company if I can help it, since I don't think the repairs should be that expensive. Thanks in advance and I look forward to becoming a regular contributor to the forum

One place I find parts cheap is certifit(.com)...maybe they have the cover, but look at their listings first. Then call if not satisfied.

As for the bumper, if it's plastic, it CAN be welded. My friend deals with cop cars and has to have them done all the time. Who to call? Look in the phone book, I guess.
