I bought an '85 Ford F150 4WD with an inline six cylinder. I took the inline six out and replaced it with a 302 from an '84 Mustang GT, inwhich has just been newly rebuilt from the ground up. I have also put on a set of 33x12.50x15 tires on 10 inch wide rims. I left the 2 core radiator from the inline six and decided to use it with a straight fan assembly and shroud. It does a pretty good job but have notice that when I stop for three to five minutes due to traffic, it wants to heat up. My questions are, Should I use a 3 or a 4 core radiator? And should I go back to the clutch fan?

Had the same problem with my 88 mustang.I would honestly go with the bigger radiator depending on your clearence the 3 core should be sufficent.I personally like the fan clutch.I have the heavy duty 3 core on my strait six and i do a lot of heavy hauling and never had any problems.I also live in one of the hottest climates in the U.S..Here in louisiana it can be 95 and with the heat index it will be 107 due to the fact we have 100% humidity most of the year.On my 88 mustang 5.0 i went with bigger radiator, electric fans in the front and the fan clutch behind. My honest opinion would to check and see what is the biggest radiator you can go with according to the specs for your truck.I am unfamiliar with the specs for your year of truck.
