Your swap wouldn't be too difficult if you had a 2wd. Basically, Ford invented a whole new truck in 1997, they literally changed everything.
If you really wanted to do this, you would want to find a 1997 or 1996 fuel injected 351W from a 2wd F250 with an automatic.
You could easily go with a carbureted engine, but as far as reliability in the winter goes, you'll want the F/I motor.

Thanks for the info guys. I have a 4x4 expedition and have just seen a lot of negetive post about the 5.4 engine. From the numerous coil pack failures, heads with oil leaks that wont quit, to the blown spark plugs. Just made me wish for the old 302's rock solid preformance and almost maintance free life compaired to the 5.4. Oh well just reminiscing.
