I have a 94 Bronco XLT, and the rear window will go down by using the button from the front, (for now, lol) but when i use the key hole in the tailgate to lower it, it wont go down/up...what could be the reason?? thoughts please, thanks.
I had a problem with my window not going up or down. If you can get your window in the up position you can remove the cover on the tailgate and get to your window motor. If you are inside the truck and you look inside the tailgate towards the drivers side you can see the mechanism that turns when you use your key. There are buttons on it, one on top and one on bottom. You can use your finger to press the buttons and see if your window moves. My problem was that it wouldn't work in either direction from the dash or the key. I had to hook up a battery to the window motor to get the window down and open the tailgate. Once the tailgate was down I found a broken wire in the harness on the driver side of the tailgate. repaired it and now everything works perfect.
Hope that gets you started.
P.S. there is tons of information on the boards about this issue, just doa search. That is how I was able to fix mine.
I had the same problem on my 96, worked at the dash but not at the key, i fixed it yesterday it was a broken wire in the harness between the tailgate and the body where it hinges on the drivers side..
I had a similar problem (kinda still do). Somebody here (IIRC), said that it's probably just a weak switch on the dash, which must be "centered" for the rear glass to work.
THAT was MY problem (& still is). If my rear glass doesn't move with the key, I just bump the dash switch - up or down - 'til it does...
The dashdoard switch is notorious for failing in one direction or another. The keyswitch in the rear is actually TWO switches; One for UP and one for DOWN. The key moves a small metal paddle that rotates between the two switches. When the key is turned, the paddle presses against the switch button and activates the motor. If the window works from one switch but not another, the motor is NOT the problem. The paddle is bolted to the tumbler assembly for the key. Make sure its still there and not floating around in the bottom of the tailgate.
