Hello everyone! My '93 XLT has a stock A/C (with R12), that works perfectly in summer. More, I replaced both evaportor and condenser last summer, and made sure it has no leaks -- so it should work great.
But now it's pretty cold out there, and I noticed when the temperature drops below 25F -- the A/C doesn't engage. Sometimes it clicks its clutch once, sometimes it engages but clicks the clutch pretty fast, about one click per 5 seconds.
So I'd like to know, is that normal (and the A/C wouldn't engage when cold), or my A/C requires some repairs?
There's a pressure switch on the accumulator. If the pressure is too low, the compressor is inhibited from coming on. I don't have the vapor pressure curve of R12 in front of me, and I'm not sure what the cutoff is that's built into the system, but if the system pressure falls below that cutoff, then the AC won't run.
