Hi All. We just purchase a F-250 4x4 super-duty truck and it has this “low growl” when the RPMs drop after shifting into gear at about 45-55 MPH. It only does this when the engine is warm. Any Ideas?? Any help would be appreciated. The mechanics at the dealership seem to be confused. Thanks
Cokeman. Just spoke with the dealership. They finally figured out what it was right after I read your response. Thank you very much. You were right. Have a great one!!
So is this a bad thing? I have the same thing going on in my 2002 F250 when it shifts at 45 - 50 mph. I think it is going into 3 or over drive. I had posted the same question on transmission thread, got no response. So thanks for your help.

It turns out that it's the Torc Converter. It's being replaced. Fortunatly this happened within the first 30 days of ownership and the dealerhip is taking care of it.

Reason: misspelled word
Got our truck back last night. The Torque Converter was on its way out The curious thing is, I've only known that to happen from extreme towing or excessive heat on the trans. They replaced it and the growl from the trans hump is gone. If you have a superduty and feel a low frequency hum or growl after you shift into passing gear and your RPM'S drop, then I suggest having it checked. Beware of the common answer of "Trans flushing" It will make it go away only temporarily. Kudo's go out to cokeman for the suggestion. One last thought, below 100,000 miles if you have a slight engine shudder at idle it is not the plugs, but possibly a coil getting ready to give out (it happen to us). Each plug has its own coil mounted on top since eace cylinder has it's own coil, the truck will continue to run, even though it has a shudder. Thanks
