9in differences
im looking at getting a 9in out of a 64 ford truck. the thing is its a 28 spline and i have a 31 spline. im told the side gears canbe swapped and then it will work. is this true? are they the same 3rd member other wise? also i think its a 3.90 gear was that common in the early 60s?

If you were to swap parts to make the different axles fit, that would be a tear down and rebuild job. If you need a new case and the gears are good, go for it, but plan on the rebuild. I think the ratio was 3.91, I saw it in some articles as an option on Mustangs and others.

The 31 spline setup was used in many trucks thru the 80's, not that hard to find, all you need is the code off the tag and a Hollanders.
Otherwise have Moser Engineering make you some new axles, not expensive at all.
