Intake and 4bbl ???
Welcome to FTE yrlngproject!
I just swapped in a 351w into my truck (previously 302). I used the factory cast iron 4bbl. intake and an autolite 4100 carb. The carb had been rebuilt professionally. It ran great right out of the box with very little tuning necessary.
I have had very good success with autolite carbs when rebuilt or new as far as mileage is concerned. And as far as intakes go and mileage concerns, for me, factory is best.
You're probably going to get a lot of different opinions. I threw my two cents in due to the fact you said "mileage" and not "Power". That's a whole 'nuther ball game!
I agree that the autolite carbs will get you better milage anyday verses a holley or edlebrock. They claim the new Air gap manifold is the hot ticket for power increases but I'm running a performer and motorcraft four barrel from my 72 351 HO Mustang that has gobs of power and get 18-24mpg with 350 gears and 4spd OD stick, I was getting 25-28 before I installed the 350, but got tired of getting beat out of the hole so....ya gotta give up something..and I get a big kick out of making all the darn kids with their rice burners back off when I kick the rear end toward them when shifting macs
