Okay, have a 93 Bronco XLT. It has a replacement rear window without the rear defogger on it. The truck still has the switch and all the wiring. Anyone know if you can by the rear window defogger strips and put on yourself??
Yes you can. They usually come with the switch and inline fuse. Just make sure that you have the right rated fuse in. Also, make sure you have a calculator. There is a formula, (supplied with the kit), that determines how many lines and how far apart.
You should be able to find the kit at your local parts store.
I dont think that you can. There ARE kits, dont get me wrong.
I looked into them for my '79 Bronco, because that's the only thing I really like about newer vehicles that I dont have on mine.
I contacted two online companies (or was it one..either way, I contacted some people) and they both said that it was a good call asking them before buying because the strips are not designed to work with a window that rolls up and down.
Just find the window at a junk yard. Many years will fit..I dont know off the top of my head, but can find out for you if you want to send a PM to remind me. I THINK anything above 1980 will fit.
Yes there are some kits that will not work for a window that rolls up and down cause the adhesive on the strips will not put up with the abuse of being scraped against the window sweep. Just have to make sure you get the right one.
And if you can find a kit that WILL withstand that kind of abuse its still most likely going to be MUCH less expensive than the glass with the defroster already on it. Had to buy one once.....OUCH doesn't even begin to describe it....I should have become a glazer...thats where the money is!
