Dealer Checkup?

Okay....here's my dillema. Just bought a 2000 F250 CrewCab 7.3 PSD with 48000 miles. It's a one-owner truck that has been immaculately maintained. I have all the service records. I even have the original window sticker in the records. Anyway, the five year warranty on the diesel runs out in April '05. Would it be wise for me to take it into a dealer and get a checkup before the warranty runs out? Or, is it a situation of 'if it ain't broke...don't fix it'? I guess buying a truck with low miles has it's plus and minuses. Low miles but warranty runs out before the engine is even 'broke in'. Comments?

If you've got no mods done the checkup might be a good idea. Ask for a price before you get hooked.

I was in the same situation... I actually found a little something wrong and used it as an excuse to take it in for warranty. I pulled the mechanic aside and told him that the warranty was about to expire, slid him 20 bucks and asked him to check it out. He found a bad ball joint, bad u-joint, slight oil leak, and one of the clamps somewhere around the turbo loose.... I think I got a lot for my 20 bucks?

The mechanics at most ford dealers get paid by the time the book says (ie, .5 hours for tire rotation) and they get paid that rate no matter how long it takes, most of the mechanics can do repairs in about 1/2-3/4 the time the book says. so they'll find as much as they can because they want to build their hours up.

My cousin works for a dealer out of state and he says that when things are slow he can sit there for 40 hours a week but only get 20-25 hours of work. when busy, he can bust a$$ for 40 hours and make 70-90 hours of work. you only get paid for the book times and it can really swing both ways.

something to think about...

I agree with getting it checked up... While an hour of labor is expensive (usualy like 60-85 bucks depending on location)just to get it looked at, getting a 3-400 dollar repair out of it is a steal...
