does not stop cranking

HI I have a '88 ford Bronco full size. It was working fine until I started it the other day and the car did not stop cranking. I just sat there until the car died. Now, I replaced the ignition switch the entire thing, got a new battery and when I put the negative cable on just for a second it did the same thing. It just cranks even when the ignition key is on 'off' or ' lock ' mode. Please help~!

Welcome to FTE!

Pull the small wire off the fender mounted solenoid to see if that stops the cranking. If not, I'd say the solenoid switch is stuck in the engaged position. Sometimes a wack with a screwdriver handle on the top of the switch will release it.

Do you think this will solve the problem? It's raining hard so I can't really do this right now, but I really hope this is the only promblem. Now if I do kick it around with a screwdriver and it doesn't work, what then? How do I disengage if it is stuck, or do I have to get a new solenoid.

Buy a new switch from Ford. There is a quality difference.
