The stock tire sizes are about 31.5 to 31.7 inches tall.

So a 31 is a little short. How it will affect speedo and ABS is up for grabs.

The 265 width is about 10.75 inches wide. So the 10.50 will be a little narrower.

So a 31 - 10.50 - 16 will physically mount, but it will be shorter, and narrower.

I hope this helps your decision.

Dave M,

If good traction in mud is what you're after, get the Mud Terrains, not the All Terrains. I have the All Terrains and they do excellent in all terrains...., except mud. The tread lug spacing isn't wide enough and they pack up with mud quick and don't like to clean out well. The MT's clean up much better.

The drawback to the Mud Terrains is they don't have siping like the All Terrains and aren't as sure footed on wet pavement and ice. They are also noisier and don't last quite as long as the All Terrains. Still a good tire though if your truck sees alot of mud.

What kind of milage can I expect from mud Terrains .. I am new to the f250.. Now on my ZJ I had the all terains and had 82 k miles and they were good for another 15 but I traded it in on the f250..

Hey Rockwell. Welcome back.

I completely agree with tarscraper.

There's no need whatsoever to worry about putting on 285 or 295 75-16's on your stock rims. (I think you just had a typo when you said 295/85-16's, I've never encountered that size.) They will fit no problem, they'll wear evenly, you don't really give up any weight capacity, and they're only ~1-1.5" taller in DIAMETER. Actual ride height change (RADIUS) is pretty minimal. They also won't throw your speedometer/odometer out by more than 1-3 mph at 60-65mph.

In short, I don't see a down side other than slightly increased fuel consumption, and it's worth it for the appearance.

Waxy

P.S. I'm running 285 BFG A/T's on my truck, check my gallery. I've got about 45,000 miles on them now, and I'd say they're about 25-30%. I figure I'll end up at around 60,000 miles. Not bad, and they've worn beautifully even at about 50psi all the way around.

Hope this isn't too late!

I used to run 35 X 12.5 BFG AT's on 16.5 X 9.75 wheels. I went back to my stock rims and 295 75 16 Nitto Terra Grapplers last fall. I'll never go back to big fat tires or BFG's. The Nittos are a superior tire for wet, dry, ice or snow. The 295's will fit and run fine. Just pay attention to air pressure for good contact patch.

Again, I cant thank you all enough for your info/comments/opinions! totally awesome!

After reading Tarscrapers post and looking thru his gallery as well as Waxy`s Ive decided to go with the 285-75-16 size. The place we have our tire work done on our big trucks has given me a price of $135.00 per tire for A/T Coopers mounted and balanced. Granted they arent top of the line, but I dont need them to be as I do not haul or offroad.

MANY thanks again all!
