Key stuck in ignition switch
My 2001 (Excursion) has eaten my key and won't give it back. The switch operates normally otherwise. I've already removed the switch assembly, but can't see any way to repair or at least remove the key. Since I'm traveling and won't be back home until late tonight, I don't want to mess with it.
Assuming I buy a new assembly, what's the procedure to key it alike to the doors? Does the new assrmbly come with new keys or does the Dealer have to set to my key?
I have keyless entry, so it's not a big deal, but I don't like not being able to open doors with key if the keyless fails.
Thanks,
Joe

I was able to get it temporarily repaired a local locksmtih. One of the tumblers is damaged and was removed.
FYI, Ford dealer wants $80 for a new unit, which then has to be keyed to my key by a locksmith.
The locksmith can order lock and key it to existing keys for less than $50.
