I have a 2005 F-350 and my driver's side headlamp stays very dim in the low or the high beam position. Also when headlights are on my dimmer light on the dash is also on but is very dim. After a period of time the headlight will come on but not all the time.
Could this be just a bulb problem or a electrical problem. Right side headlight works just fine. Also, went to local parts store to pick up 9008 bulb and bulbs only go to 9007. Trying to get and easy fix before I have too tie up a whole day at the dealership for a $l0.00 Warranty Part.
Could be a bad ground. Check near the light. Wiggle wires you might find it. Maybe a bulb try switching. Also try unplug the bad one and see if the dash light will come on full.
That's definately a grounding problem. That's why your high beam indicator is sometimes on--the headlamp filaments are grounding themselves through the high beam indicator. It's odd that a new truck has this problem--usually you find bad grounds on older vehicles. I have the electrical manual for my 2003 F-250, and that shows that the headlamp ground on the left side is located on the firewall in the corner where it meets the left fender. I don't know if your 2005 is the same. You should find one or more wires with loops on the ends secured to the firewall, usually with self tapping hex head screws. Loosen and retighten that screw, and if the problem is there, hopefully your problem will disappear. Also, check to make sure that the wire makes good contact with the loop--it might not have been crimped properly. If that doesn't fix your problem, then check the headlamp plug to make sure that the ground terminal has not backed out of the connector. There are 3 wires in the headlamp plug--2 of them are multi colored, and the ground wire is black--look to see if the terminal on the black wire has backed out and is not making contact with the bulb, or if the wire is not crimped properly there also. If neither location shows a problem, then that ground wire might have gotten cut in the harness between the headlamp and firewall.
