Wrong flywheel?
I ran the numbers on my 302 and its a 1980 out of a fullsize/galaxie. The strange part is that it has the HO (or 351w) firing order but there wasnt an HO motor till 82. The 302 has this shuddering vibration in neutral that gets worse with RPM. Im thinking that the flywheel may be wrong for the application. The transmission is a T3.03 3 speed in a 71 Bronco. So heres the question. What determines the proper flywheel for this setup? Is it just a matter of matching the crank # to the correct flywheel or is there more involved? This 302 replaced an older one that was stock and im guessing they used the same flywheel.

for the 302, around 82 or so and older use a 28 oz and 82 and newer 50 oz, the 351w was always 28 oz
is there a chance someone stuck the 50oz internals in the older block? Its possible, but would not explain the firing order unless they used a 351w camshaft or converted it accept a 302 roller, the camshaft determines the firing order not the crank.
you may wanna recheck those casting numbers, the galaxie was only produced up until 1972.
good luck

I dont intend to tear down the engine cuz i have a race coming up soon, but if i knew it was just a flywheel id take care of it.

..for block casting numbers, my book shows the "A" as a generic suffix for any car line. Which IMO makes more sense than galaxie/fullsize...which book you using?
I assume you mean vibrates at idle in neautral vs rolling...
...your right though, no telling what someone has done, I wouldn't think they would change the flywheel but then you never know...
good luck
