What do you folks think of a 650 dollar price tag for a 68000 mile 5.0 for my sons 1987 F150. Seems like most of the salvage yards around here are in that price range......Thanks
seems high for the prices around here. i could pick it up for about half that. depends on where you live. also if you have a u-wrench-it around they sell motors for $99.00. have to look around and find the low mileage and pull it yourself is the catch there.
Even the overpriced yard by me, has complete running engines for about $300-$400 depending on what it is (bigger in size means more $$$).
If you want their address and number, I can look it up for you, they are in rahway, NJ which is just north of woodbridge.
I picked up a running 460 (minus the alternator, someone bagged it before I saw the engine in the rack) for $350 with everything complete. Though the putzes hacked the EFI harness at the firewall instead of disconnecting it.
But the price was right, it came out of a van with about 80K on it.
The 5.0 is a VERY popular engine, found in lots of cars, should be able to find one MUCH cheaper than that. You might even concider the 5.8, I think these are common in trucks.
i paid 500.00 for a early 90s 5.0 h.o. from a mustang with 60,000 miles on it and its been a good motor try to find one that was in a automatic trans, cuz if it had standard maybe its been over reved. also make sure that you use the trucks computer and all sensors, sometimes you wont have a place for the knock sensor just make a bracket and mount it on the back of the intake. good luck moondogg
