96 Explorer trans / downshift sensitivity
I have had my Explorer for a year now & love it! Lately, I have been driving a lot of highway miles & has a consistant problem at speed. The trans shifts perfectly through the gears. The problem is that it kicks-down, or downshifts easily. Even with the cruise control on, if the MPH varies even 1 mph, the trans kicks down. At highway speeds, the trans is doing a lot of unnecessary shifting, which is obviously hurting my gas mileage.
I have checked & there are no fault codes.
I have had slightly oversized tires on it for about 8 months. The problem did exist before I changed the tires, but I wasn't doing hardly any highway miles & it just wasn't an issue, now it is.
Any ideas?
Also, I was under it recently & noticed that the rubber mounts on the front Differential are in pretty bad shape, are these easy to replace? I have done lots of mechanical work & can do most repairs unless they require specialized equipment.
Thanks, Dan
