I have a 91 Ranger 3.0L/4sp auto that when I got the truck would not display on the dash when the parking brake was put on. Now the light on the dash won't go out and the 'anti lock' light also is on and will not go out.
The winter temperatures up here in Ontario Canada have dropped and that is when the dash lights turned on, but I'm not sure that it the cold temperatures that have triggered this. The rear brakes haven't locked up, and the parking brakes are working fine.
Haven't had a chance to test the ABS yet, but any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
The ABS light is on because a fault has been detected. At the top of this forum, in the sticky titled technical information, you will find info on how to pull the code. As for the brake light being on, for starters, I'd promptly check the fluid level and then inspect the switch for the e-brake. It's located on the parking brake assembly. Let us know what you find.
The brake fluid level is good, but the parking brake switch seems to be faulty.Problem #1 will be resolved now. As for the ABS light, I will look into that and report.
As with your other replys,You have a hard-fault code....With my 92 you can Pin-out a connector under the hood and count flashes on your ABS light, the parking brake light is a on because it's a fail-safe, ABS light goes on parking brake light goes on. this is so people don't remove the (ABS) Bulb to pass inspection. In most states Your parking brake light has to work when applied and you ABS light can't be on...I had the problem with my truck it was the Rabs valve. hope this helps
Thank you for the quick responses. The problem turned out to be a bit
of ice and snow on the back brakes (we're in the middle of winter up here
in Canada). I sprayed down the truck including underneath the wheel wells, and the dash lights now function as they should. The temperature has warmed up a little as well.
