Alright, i bought this 87 B2 about 4 months ago and its been running rough since then. Now im fed up and am going to get it running the way a true B2 should.
The problem is: when accelerating it doesnt shift until very high rpm's (sometimes i wonder if it will at all), and once i get up to speed (around 40) and give it a little more gas to pass another car or get those pesky tailgaters off my back it down-shifts and doesnt accelerate at all (the rpm's stay at about 2300-3000). Another thing is once i get to about 50-55 if i give it even a little more gas it down-shifts and practically slows down. Is this because thats all the little 2.9 has got, or does it have something to do with the tranny?
Like Ken sez, it could be a modulator problem, but could also be a vacuum problem.
If this was mine, i'd hookup my vacuum gauge & see what vacuum looks like at idle & more importantly the vac gauge will tell you if you have a clogged cat.
For less than a dealer would charge to fix this you can buy a vac gauge/code scanner/fuel pressure gauge.
Just follow the directions that come with these-& in your Haynes manual- to do some simple testing & let us know what you come up with.
