Hello again. I went to the local auto grave yard today. I am trying to convert my 83 ford f-150 351w from a duraspark 3 to a vacum advance. I found a 1982 f-150 that had a 351w and a duraspark system. I got the whole thing. Got it home and all the sizes are the same but the oil pump drive will not work. On the duraspark 3 dist. from the bottom of the gear to the end of the shaft is 1 1/2" and on the other dist it is 1". I took a trip to the local auto parts store to see about getting a whole reman. dist. all the ones listed for a 351w are the same lenth from the bottom of the gear to the end of the shaft 1". Can i swap out dist shafts from the duraspark 3 to the new one? Or what can i do here folks. Thanks.
On autozone.com and partsamerica.com(advance auto) I looked up the oil pump driveshaft for a:
1983 f150 with a 351w
1979 cougar with a 351w(I know this is duraspark II)
Both sites listed the oil pump shaft as the same for both vehicles.
What is the measurement from the gasket surface of the distributors to the end of the gear? I also wonder how far up in the distributor the shaft slides?
I have read something about this before, but I can't seem to find it again.
