Fuel Gauge Malfunction
I own a '86 F150-302 EFI and a '88 Clubwagon Van-351W EFI both with dual tanks and the fuel gauge went out on both vehicles. They will occassionally function correctly, but not for long. Is this an electrical problem or is it the sending unit? Is there a easy way to find the problem?

Do both tanks read erratically? If so, welcome to another reason to drive a Ford with dual tanks! You get to replace BOTH tank sensors, like I did! Now that it's done, I can trust the gas gauges again!

If it is affecting the oil, temp and am meters as well the problem is in the dual tank selector switch (the one by the heater). I haven't spent the time to figure it out exactly but we have 3 mid 80's pickups with this problem, nearly always it can be temporarily fixed by flicking the switch up and down a few times.
