trans downshift problems

I have a 1979 Ford F-100 with a 300 inline six, 3 speed w/od tranny and am having problems downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. I tried to adjust the shifter linkage and changed the tranny fluid, but neither seems to help. buy the way the shifter is sloppy and I'm thinking about replacing it. If anyone could give me any ideas for the downshift problem or where to get a new shifter I would appreiciate it.
