I'm totaly stumped!

I am about at my end. I have a 87' Rgr w/ 2.9L and A/T. A month ago it would not start. I replaced both fuel pumps, relays, inertia switch. I've checked the fuel pressure, the ignition module. I am down to the box (computer) under the dash and still no luck. The truck will at times start and run. It will repeat 10 or 20 times and then NOTHING. It will crank and crank but won't start. Help!

did you clean the throttle body or the injectors or replace plugs and wires? check compression, all the sensors? scan codes? did you check the pressure at the fuel rail? pull a plug and see if its wet? there is a million things that could be wrong and if you are completely ready to give up just take it to the dealer.

What I would do is the next time it won't start do some basic troubleshooting to determine if it is fuel or ignition related. An easy test to see if you have spark is to hook a timing light to the motor with the light pointing towards the driver's seat so you can watch to see if you have spark as you turn it over. Also listen for the electric fuel pump when you first turn the key.You can also check for trouble codes if you have a code reader which might indicate a problem.Once you know whether the problem is ignition or fuel it will be easier to diagnose.

Sounds like the pickup coil inside the distributor. This will sometimes cause an intermittent no start. Good luck!
