No, not at all. The truck needs power, LOTS of power for the update process to work. At one point Ford was recommending hooking a battery charger to the trucks to avoid problems from the power fading in the midst of the update.
There is some "learning" that the computers do after they've had their local parameters erased. A lot of people recommend disconnecting the batteries to erase those settings and get the computers to relearn the truck. But the update process also wipes out those parameters, so there's no need to disconnect the batteries as part of the update just to cause that.
