alright, once again im looking of what people think of some of my work for my 52f2. ive been doing alot of cosmedic work while i wait for parts and i did my first attempt of flames for the glove box door, but there are the second try for the door panels. and i would also like to point out that these are hand drawn, not traced.... it to many of tires to get them layed out right.
Looks pretty good to me! These are just the layout, correct? What colors will you be using? Other than putting in a larger engine down the road I plan on keeping mine looking mostly stock.
well im one of those darksiders... so its flat black outside, leapord skin dash, black fabric seats.... and no idea what the rest of the colors are gonna be... any ideas? cuz im stumped.
Are you putting any upholstery on the door above the flames? If not, then I would make the flames a lot bigger. They look like the little decals you can buy. Just my opinion. I like the scale on my door panel flames. You know what they say about opinions.
As far as the shape and layout of your flames. Perfect, I love em! Wish I could draw them nearly that well.
yea this was kinda to kill time till parts show. i really dont have a clue about how much upholstery im gonna do... kinda like the bare metal feel. but i was already thinking of doing the flames much bigger. but i have decided if i get good at the process i might do a gloss black over the flat black on the front of the truck... or maybe on the inside of the roof..... *wheels start turning once again*.. but thats in good time... i already have sever projects going on for it and need to start taking one at a time.
Six... if you are going to confine the flames to the access panel then I would make them longer... fill the field as it were. However, I would not do that. To me the flames are in isolation. Perhaps you are going at this a bit backward. Like, 'fenders, I would like to know what the rest of the door panel is going to look like... it will have a bearing on your flames. And color.
Your drawing skills are apparent in what you have done...so, to move off in another direction, for the sake of argument, why not try to bring some of your dash ideas onto the door panel? How about getting out of the leopard skin mode and try some scallops or teardrops or chilipeppers? Get some color on there and give us something unique! We're counting on you! The hope of some of us older hotrod boys is the fresh ideas you younger boys can give us. We're tired of those old ideas. Give it to us straight, doctor, we can take it! supportively, himmelberg
hey thanks, and i agree. like i said before i have alot of things going on with my truck and just need to slow down and get things done one at a time. the flames were more of a blank canvas to work on. needless to say this is the 3 classic ive worked on and ive developed the habit of jumping in before fully understanding... the one reason why i love this forum... i can get tips and ideas within a few hours. but once i get the ideas layed out for the inside i will be sure to post them. thanks again
I'd like to see a more interesting beginning to the door ones. Like someone said they look a bit like the stick on ones and they have been wrapped around the front of the panel and there is more on the back. I think flames should grow from a narrower beginning to full width and then taper off to the tips. One other suggestion from a pro artist that might help is to first draw the flame area as one big shape like you might draw a candle flame on it's side, adjust the outline until it looks like it fits the area well as one shape. An assymetric shape is usually more visually interesting and less machine looking. Once you have a good overall shape you're pleased with go back in and add the individual "C" shapes to make it into the licks within that outline. That way you will have a more harmonious shaped flamed area before you fall in love with the details.
Six, if you're really thinking leopard skin dash with a black interior why not do the flames in leopard skin, too? Work that same theme into part of the seat upholstery, say the centers and not the whole thing plus a couple throw pillows in leopard...then that's enough skin without over doing it. Use naugahyde & velour...stay away from tweed with this theme. Chrome gauges & accents and black carpeting could finish it off. Just my opinion but I think yer Effie would look too cool!

i think doing the dash in leopard skin would be dope! i was thinking of just doing the dash flat black with white flames.... for some reason it never had crossed my mine to do it with fabric... well i guess be on the lookout for a new post on my progress of it!!
You could do leopard skin in paint as well as in fabric. Or paint the dash satin black (not flat, any rub marks will show permanently) and make a panel for the flat face portion and cover it in the leopard fabric. If I'm understanding Norb right he's suggesting filling the flames in the door panels (Or even on the outside in some painted flames) with the leopard pattern instead of white or the traditional blended flame colors. That would be so sick!
I'm with you on the kustom scene!
I am going to have fun with my truck. It's so rusty that it's worth doing some kustomizing to. Her name is the "VooDoo Daisy". Not too sure about the finished paint color. I bounce around from black, to kandy lime-gold, to pink, to metallic root beer w/marroon scallops, etc.
Leopard is kool if it's your personality. Make a kool shifter ****, or find something small you can tap and stick on your shift lever. If anything make the flames bigger. Not because they look like stickers, but be bold daddyo, bring 'em on! Do like what was mentioned - turn a flame on its side then flame the inside of that. Or use a spade shape, or even a heart shape j/k but really, you've got good ideas, but "Go big or go home"!
It's like you're getting a tattoo - don't get something dinky, make it worthwhile.
