new project

I'm about to tear into the door to replace the "guts" of the window crank/roller and the door opener, and I'm looking for any advice from someone who has done this so I don't screw up! Thanks!

Went thru process sometime back. If recall, removed pin on the roller and set the glass to the bottom of door. Removed the screw securing the division bar. If recall there are two at the top of door jamb and 1 above or near the window crank. Also found that if remove the 2 or 3 screws along the door jamb that secure the wind wing this should allow you shift the division bar to remove the window and regulator, or at least it make removing the regulator easier. There is a screw where the wind wing secures to the division bar just under the rubber. Most cases have found the screw is rusted and unable to remove. You can remove the division bar and wind wing together. As you get into it, you will find there is a process that makes it less difficult, but really can not screw it up. You may want to consider insulating while you have the guts removed. Dennis Carpenter, Part supplier, use to have the instructions in their catalog. May want to try going online see if they provide instructions, or call 800# and inquire they will send catalog at no cost. Good to have couple of supplier catalogs available. Fortunately i do not have to make sense of these instructions.

I use wooden wedges to squeeze the door and window handles off without breaking them. Then get the door release screws and let the release hang straight down (gravity) and push it off towards the outside of the truck. Get the window regulator next. Lower the window and pull off the plastic roller (tiny clip). Push the class to the outside and let it sit in the door. Roll the regulator arm up, remove the screws and slide it out. Then get the glass. Reassemble in reverse order. If you are doing the window channel, whiskers and vent window see daveengelsons post.
