[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Jan-03 AT 06:38 PM (EST)]PosiTrac is the name for the GM limited slip; Ford calls it TracLok. You can use any full-size 1/2-ton rear axle from '7?-96 with your gear ratio. Just look for one with "L" as the second digit of the second line on the thin metal tag attached to the diff housing, or "H" as the first digit of the AXLE code on the door sticker. You can sometimes find just the carrier on eBay, but that's gonna be slow & expensive to get into your truck. A complete axle swap is much easier and should cost $150-350 total.
Thanks. I would buy a complete axle swap but i dont have that much money to spend on one. I am gonna keep searching for one. Do you think it would be possible to find one at a junk yard?
The factory locking diff was never that great when they were new. After they get some mileage on them, they don't do much at all(in other words, it would need new clutch packs).
I though about a posi too, to get me out of my driveway on snowy days. The posi can be bad on ice since both wheels are powered they can break loose and send you to the ditch:If you are lucky.
I want an air locker system where I can turn the posi off and on at will. When I find an extra $700 I might do it. It is about as good as 4x4 and cheaper, lighter, less complex.

If you do some shopping, you'll probably find that an axle swap is cheaper than buying a diff carrier & having the gears set up & all the seals replaced.
