Mark/Madathlon:
IMHO we should create some kind of acknowledgement for members like Paul/pcmenten [& many others!]
I'd like to make a motion to honour that kind of generosity - gift of the heart - in some way that he's comfortable with.
Thanks Paul an all the rest of you for making this a better place to live and enjoy our hobby.
Yeah, perhaps it could be a designation like elder user or new user but acknowledging service above and beyond
What do you think moderator?
GW
Though I have never had the honor of actually meeting Paul in person, what I have seen through FTE has shown me that he is an extraordinary person.
I think it is a great idea to acknowledge what Paul did.
Unfortunately, Moderators do not have the priveledges/abilities to set something like this up. That would be up to Ken the owner ("Webmaster").
Not sure if you are aware of this, but there is a "reputation" system already in place. All you have to do is find one of the user's posts, and click on the little "scale" icon. It allows you to add to their reputation points, and leave very nice comments about the person.
I got home tonight, Friday 31st. Not much snow in Oregon. It all must have landed on Donner Pass. I'm glad I didn't have to travel via Reno, or via Grant's Pass.
I was impressed by your hustle, you had everything ready to go when I arrived and the swap went quickly. And I was glad that we were able to cure the U-joint snafu quickly, too. Since I got the the U-joint and the straps that work with the 411, it all worked out perfect.
BTW, everybody, Mark is an experienced mechanic. He taught me a new trick; he removed the nuts for the bearing retainer plate on his 9" housing with a tire iron. I never would have thought of that.
Watching Mark work convinced me that he probably could have swapped rear-ends in less than 15 minutes using two or three tools (a tire iron, a rachet wrench, and a tube of gasket sealer). Really.
Seems like Mark's truck was originally a 3 spd. w/OD and 4.11 gears, but the transmission was swapped to a T98, the kind with a granny low. I can't imagine trying to drive that 4.11 on I-5. That little 223 must have been straining to keep up.
I just wish I had a 3.00 for you instead of the 3.25. The Lincoln 3.00 that I had was equipped with an odd looking yoke and I think it would have been a real chore to swap the pinon yokes.
The 3.25 works great.. I can do 65 at about 4000 RPM, Unlike what sounded like 5500 RPM before, Speedo is about 10 MPH off, I have order the right speedo gear set for it. Its much better now than before. And in this area its a must to do highway speeds. One day I will be keeping a Eye out for a tranny that I can swap right out with a better gear set up. Thanks a lot Paul for all your help
