460 rebuild

i am getting ready to rebuild my 460 i have the block all cleaned up now i am working on the heads what are some easy ways to get all the sludge off of them without sending them to be cleaned thanks for any help mike

Your local car wash. Hot, soapy water at 1000 psi will take off just about everything (including skin, if you're not careful). Just remember to spritz them down liberally with oil afterwards to them to keep them from rusting.

Are you not planning on sending them out to be checked for cracks and or warpage or wear in general, such as the valve guides or valve seats?

Car wash works, as does a power washer. If you're going to be replacing all the seals, feel free to toss them into a bucket of acetone and let them soak before you wash them. Then you can wash them with a sponge and the gunk comes right off.

But only do that if you intend to replace the stem seals.
