4. 01 F-350 DRW,CC,2WD,PSD,auto 80,000 for $19,900
These are asking prices do you guys think a little high or? I am in no real big hurry to buy now but these trucks seem to be the nicer ones for the money. I know truck 4. has been a hauler it doesn't have a stock tail gate it has a windgate. Makes me a little weary of it. What about a 5 or six speed trucks over an automatic. My main use will be a daily driver but will haul on the side a little and I have a 26 ft enclosed trailer that I haul my race car in. Let me have it....
Ok I'll help this along. I personally like door #1 due to the lower mileage given and Lariet . I would ten chose #4 ( Pros: Auto and dually) , #2 (Pros: Price and auto) and last #3 (Cons: Mileage & Manual) . I personally cannot give much personal advice about the 7.3. The only ones that I have been exposed to are those at work which run fine and friends that have them and still have them after alot of miles. I had a 99 and 01 F250 and F350drw but both had V10's in them. I have a new F350srw PSD and love the motor and overall power.
I do like the auto of manual but that is a personal prefrence. All of them should pull the car hauler fine.
Thanks for the reply... I have owned a 99 F-250 SC, PSD, auto, 4x4 really liked it but never used the 4x4 and just couldn't see having it. I now own a 99 F-250 SC, 2WD, V-10, auto and I love it, but i'm going to haul some cars and trailers for some people too so I thought I would go back to a PSD, but a 2WD this time. I don't really need a dually but I have always wanted one. I live in Ohio and we get snow not great deals much, but we do get dumped on once in a while and the dually 2WD makes me leary no experiance and have had mixed advice. On the auto or stick I don't care either way my buddy has an auto and wouldn't have a stick and another friend always gets a stick and would never own a auto. I have never drove a stick PSD i'm going to have to borrow his and check it out. Like I said the truck i'm getting will be a daily driver and I need to get the best truck that fits my needs. I usually just go buy a truck because I like how it looks and end up wishing i'd gone with something else...
If you are going to stay with a 2wd then I would shy away from the DRW. I found I was putting mine in 4WD more than my SRW trucks. Wasnt an issue but if you dont have 4WD and with the road conditions that you are subject to get, well you get the point. I personally do miss my DRW and after putting a few miles on this one, probley around 80,000-100,000 I will get a new one (DRW). I will also more than likely stay with a diesel. The maintenance cost more but it sure does pull. My V10's would never keep up with it. If memory serves me right I think the HP and torque ratings given are for the stick and the auto is slightly less. But I might have it backwards. Those are good prices listed. I have seen various 99-01 PSD trucks here with 100,00+ miles listed for 26,000. Probley our location, they really do have a good resale. The dealer here has a sign asking to buy used year model PSD trucks listed above. I have seen some advertise for over 35,000, same year with lower miles.
Another thing to consider is what will your total weight with trailer, car, truck, fuel and other items. There have been some talk here about the F250 being over legal limit (Even compared to F150). We all know it will handle the weight but there is that legality issue to consider, espically if you are going to haul for other people. (IE the diesel weight approximately 400 more than the V10 so you lose that 400 with th diesel.)
Hey; I'm also looking for a superduty. I want, more than need a 4X4. I pull a 7k lbs boat and some of the boat ramps are so steep the rear wheel just spin with out it. I'm going to a 9k lbs boat so I want a V10 or diesel. Anyway to your options. I like #2. The 01 is just a little nicer and the SC works better for me. You didn't mention long bed or short. I like the look of a SC with a long bed. In my searching for a superduties, I have found a lot of the F-350s have been used hard, towing real heavy loads. Most of the F-250s seem to be a little less abused. That's just my observations. i would buy a 350 in a minute if I found the right one for the right price. None of the veh you have listed have high miles in my opinion.
Good luck in your search, let us know which one you get......
# 3, Best resale value, DRW lariat CC, and a 5 speed. Only down fall is it is 2WD I prefer the 4x4but that is me. #3 is your best option, for what you descrbe as far as towing.
just my 2 cents but to me owning a truck that isnt 2wd is just pointless...if you are already shelling out the money for a truck, you might as well get the 4x4...its better to have it and not use it than to need it and not have it...other then the abilty to haul (you could do that in an SUV, fifth wheel excluded), the main benefit of a truck is 4x4....anyway Im certainly no truck expert by any means but thats just MHO...
I use my 4x4 about five days a year (on the beach in Hatteras). But, I would NEVER buy a truck that didn't have 4x4. A truck without 4x4 just doesn't sit right with me. Even if you save $4000 on a 2wd, who cares? You'd just blow that $4000 on something else. Keep looking.
