My 4X4 is not engaging. I have the electronic shift on the fly switch. The 4X4 and 4low lights come on on the instrument panel and the motor that engages 4x4 is clicking and working but the front wheels are not moving. Checked the 2 fuses for the 4x4 and they are both fine. Could it be the locking hub selinoid?
The locking hubs use a vacuum pulse, so there could be a few different things wrong there. A common one is the line breaking away out at the back of the hub. Do your heating flaps go into the wrong position (like, say, defrost) when you try to actuate 4x4? That's usually a good sign of a vacuum leak.
I had the same problem while trying to back a trailer up a gravel hill... back tires spinning, front doing nothing. (plus my Dodge driving buddy making fun of me the whole time!)
Anyway... I found that one of my vaccum lines had pulled off. Find the vaccum lines in the front and check to make sure they are intact. (perhaps someone more technical can post here with details)
The way I figured it out was by manually locking in the hubs. (not sure if you have the manual/auto hubs) 4X4 worked then, so I knew I had a vaccum leak.
Put the loose hose back on and hubs auto locked fine.

thanks for any info.
could be a number of things. vacuum line off at the spindel is a good place to start. my truck had rotten vaccum lines that i replaced for less than 10.00. sure was cheaper than buying new hubs.
