My 95 F250 SC/LB/4X4/460 gets a consistant 7.5 mpg, it gets driven almost exclusively in town as we use the Taurus for longer trips unless I'm hauling something. I hate to figure it out all the time, but if it changes too much, it could be a sign that something is wrong, that's the main reason I keep tabs on my mileage. It's already so low, I don't know how much more it could go down, but this is a habit I got into a long time ago with cars that got better mileage.

Mileage is a funny thing. I have a 93' Ranger with the 4.0L six. I get ~14 - 15 in town and ~18 on the highway. I hope to pick up my New 150 Screw tomorrow and think it is amazing that something so much bigger, heavier and stronger gets similar if not better mileage.

I do check my mileage almost every tank. It only takes me a second and it leads me to believe (yea, I am not really sure this is true) that I am getting some insight into the overall health of my engine. I am in my mid 40's. This is a habit from youth when you had to change plugs, points, wires, filters .... almost weekly.

Great Thread ... Thanks for posting.

Finally, I want to quote from the sticker of the machine I will spend a small fortune on tomorrow:

"Results reported to EPA indicate that the majority of vehicles with these estimates will achieve between 11 and 17 mpg in the city and between 15 and 21 mpg on the highway."

This was the fine print next to the big numbers posted on the windshield

One thing in this forum that never ceases to amaze me are the people who 'don't care about mileage'. I should be so rich.
I have a motorhome that gets about 9.6-10 with the toad on the back, so I don't waste miles on it. But when I had a Chevy Sprint ER, that got an average of 57 mpg on the open road, I didn't waste miles on that either.
I can 'afford' whatever I need, but I'm d....nd if I will waste anything. That especially includes gasoline.
If I nail the truck for fun, blast up to high speed to pass, or whatever, I am doing it becase I enjoy that. When I drive down the street to get lunch, I will not waste a drop I don't have to. I turn it off in lines, or at the ATM.

I learned long ago that the rich are more careful with a buck than the poor. That might expain part of why they are rich, the research seems to support that. Hollyweird and sports excepted, of course.

I knew what I was getting into when I bought my truck. Infact it was my coming home gift when I returned from IRAQ. Picked it up the day after I arrived home Nov 2003. I do care about mileage and watch it more than I should, mainly since my Lariat calculates it for me.

I too served in the Gulf region onboard USS Nimitz, an 8 month deployment. 21 yrs Active service to date. Hats off and prayers for all those serving. They make me a Proud American!

Well I confess that I didn't check it more than once or twice in my last vehicle. I have checked it in my XLT periodically and seem to be getting 15, mostly city.

I think that it's nonsense to believe we are over in Iraq for the oil-anyone keeping tabs on the COST of the war?! The middle east IS of crucial importance to us geopolitically. If any madman(s) ruled the Middle East it would threatend our national security and yeah economics is a factor! But I digress. People who REALLY do believe we are fighting for oil and our gas consumption is killing kids so to speak would be buying a hybrid at best certainly not a truck! (Excluding those whose livliehood depends on a truck).

Mileage

I would like the mileage to be somewaht close to what is listed. I am getting between 12-13 mpg with a mixture of highway and local driving. When I use 4x4the mileage drops to about 10.

[QUOTE=Aubrey3]

"Results reported to EPA indicate that the majority of vehicles with these estimates will achieve between 11 and 17 mpg in the city and between 15 and 21 mpg on the highway."

I thought that I would be able to control the mileage somewhat by driving like my granny... no go, got 10.3 last tank. It seems that you get what you get, some trucks get good mileage some don't
I do check now more than I have in the past, but I sill have some control, just won't drive more than I need to. that's kinda hard cause I love to drive this truck.

I am getting about 13 mpg all city driving. Do I care? No, I have the truck that I want and I'm enjoying it. I'm not light on the gas pedal either. I just top it off when I get down to half a tank.

BTW- I have an '05 F-150 SuperCrew Lariat.

Wow!!this took a strange turn.I`ve been out of town all weekend and am just catching up.So let me get this straight.I don`t worry about my mileage soooooooo I`m unpatriotic??Are you kidding me? I work on the railroad,in the track department. Not a high paying job by any means. When I saw and test drove my new ride,I didn`t look at est.mileage.Not because I`m rich and can afford everything.Because I knew with the size engine in it,what I could expect.About the same as my 95 F-150.I wanted the truck, and I drive it,so,whatever it uses I`m going to have to buy. Some of you guys should take a chill pill.It never entered my mind when I started this post that someone would go into a rant and bring Iraq and all that up.I don`t care if it gets 12 or 15 or 17,I`m driving it.And by the way,a neighbor kid,in the Air Force with a tour in Iraq just bought himself a FX4 and he sure does seem to like it.He don`t care about mileage either.Damn unpatriotic of him.Don`t you think? Get a life pal........
