86 F150 4x4

I`m new here. Just got a 1986 F150 4x4 with a 302 EFI. Doesn`t run not sure about the automatic trans,or transfer case. Thinking about changing to a 351w.Is the performance of the 302 sufficient and as an EFI how about fuel mileage? The 302 appears to be an 87.The only engines I`m familiar with are 300`s and 400. I also don`t know if everything is there for the EFI. My Chilton manual is a little vague.

the 302 efi is a great motor and will get you better mileage than a carbed 351w. it can be made to put out serious power, my stang put down 350hp and tq to the wheels with some boltons and a 5psi blower. but if you plan on doin any towing i would suggest the 351w motor, it has loads of torque. as far as getting her running, you have to run some tests and tell us more in order to narrow it down, does it just turn over and over and not start? are you getting fuel? spark? is the fuel pump priming?
