Oil leak

I have an oil leak around my oil filter I can't seem to stop. It started about 40,000 miles and has got worse over time, now with 55,000 miles. I have changed filters 3x with no change and even tried different brands. I'm really scared to put a wrench to since I have never had to do that on any vehicle I've owned. I checked the mating surface for debris or anything odd. I'm really tired of leaving oil spots everywhere. Any clues?

I would give it one turn with a wrench. I've always changed my own oil and tightened the filter with a wrench. I have never had one oil filter leak or any problems from using a wrench to tighten my oil filters. I take it since you've checked the mating surfaces that an old gasket hasn't stuck to the surface, I've heard of this happening a few times and causing oil leaks from the filter. Also by smearing a little oil on the gasket itself before installing will reduce leaks and sticking.

Good luck hope a little turn with wrench with solve you're problems.
