i was thinkin about buyin a gibson swept side exhaust for a 2004 f250 sc lb 5.4l anyone have anything good/bad to say about 'em? i want a system that'll give me more hp but not so much noise. also are the headers worth the gains? they're obviously pricey but do they give significant gains? and should i spend the extra $$ for SS exhaust or should the aluminized hold up long enough here in new england. thanks for any help
I'm actually running the Gibson you're describing. It's the stainless steel one. I'm happy with it. But I can't actually say I've noticed anything in terms of improved performance. I've got a F250 cc sb with the 5.4. The tiny bit of hp improvement that I might actually be getting isn't going to be noticed in a big ol' 3/4 ton truck. I suspect it's gonna take a supercharger before I actually notice anything on my truck.
I've often wondered about the headers too. I've read that the loss of back pressure results in a loss of torque, and a drop in overall power. There is enough doubt in my mind about the headers that I won't be spending the money on them.
One thing I recommend is this...take everything your read in the magazine ads, I'm talking about the ads that boast IMPROVED HP !, IMPROVED TORQUE !, IMPROVED MPG !, IMPROVED SEX LIFE ! with a huge, enormous, gigantic, city-block-sized grain of salt. If you want to mod your truck because it's fun for you, then go for it. But don't do it because you think you're building a hot rod out of a F250. Just my 2 cents.
i had a 97 f150 that i ran the gibson on. 1st don't get the SS mine rusted! they use a cheap grade stainless and the aluminized has the same warranty. 2nd it will sound just a little deeper than stock . very little if any perf gains. 3rd make sure you buy the system that exits behind the rear wheel. the one that exits in front of the wheels will ruin your nice wheels..
i just purchased a SS gibson header new on ebay for $250. for my 02 v10. gibson has a over stock blow out on ebay, so check there often...
