I'm trying too adjust my gear selector on the column, but I cannot figure out how to get the top cover off the steering column. I have tilt wheel and do have the bottom off. Do I have to pop off the plastic deal for the key or is there some sneakly little trick to get it off? I have a diagram on how to adjust it that Racerguy sent me, but how the heck do I get to the part I need!!! HELP!!!!
To get the top cover off you have to remove the ignition lock cylinder.
On the bottom of the housing where the lock cylinder goes into you'll see a small hole with a pin in it. Turn the key to the ON position and push a small screwdriver into the hole to push the pin in. When the pin is pushed in the lock cylinder and key will pull out. Then the top cover just lifts off.
Racerguy - when I get finished, so I just re-insert key module til it clicks in and turn or what? Really very new at this type thing and don't want to mess up trk!! thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!!!!
would the gear selector being off a position have any effect on my doors automaticly locking when I start to move? Think I found the pin on the bottom side, but it got dark. Will try to disassemble tomorrow in daylight, that way I can see the parts flying in diff directions easier. THANKS FOR THE HELP Racerguy!!

Most newer vehicles are programmed to lock the doors upon putting the vehicle into gear and moving. This is normal.
If you want rid of it, consult the owner's manual. There will be instructions on how to disable it if you wish.
Gentlemen: I read all your threads and wondering if you are talking about a problem I have?
When we shift the column stick to R, N, D etc, the selector doesn't hit the letters anymore? Is this an easy fix as my wife now won't drive the truck for fear of the tranny falling out? If this is what you are talking about, anyone care to give this DYI a step by step on how to fix?
DYI - don't think the tranny will fall out anytime soon, all the selector does is tell you what gear you are in. You can do a search of previous threads and Racerguy posted a diagram on how to adjust the indicator position. I found mine under the dash but 1 end had broken and I decieded to just live with it. hope this helps, Mr Dave
