performance

i was wondering about doing a exhaust upgrade, but since i'm on a budget i was thinking about just replacing the cat and the muffler on my 83 bronc with more higher flowing units, this worth it or should i go all out?

should i stick with the two barrel carb on the 302 or switch it up to a four barrel?

Most any improvement in airflow over the stock setup will improve your performance. Keep in mind however that an engine is like an equation, what you do to one side you should do to the other to keep everything balanced. In other words, if you suddenly improve exhaust flow by running 3" exhaust from the Y-pipe back with high flow muffler and cat, but you leave the intake side stock, suddenly the engine is breathing so well on the exhaust side that it will have trouble developing torque because the exhaust is moving so well and there isn't sufficient backpressure to provide resistance to build torque. Obviously, the inverse is true as well. So whatever you plan on doing, do a little to intake and exhaust as you build up to the performance level you want to achieve and you will see steady improvements rather than temporary drawbacks.
