Emissions Question ... Help!!!

Hello Guys, I have a 91' Ford f-150 with a 302 and a 5 speed zf. I recently had a new moter put in to it. Due to time i had a shop install it for me. The mechanic asked me if i wanted the emissions stuff removed, not knowing much about Emissions back then i said yes. so, about a year down the road the engine is still runing well but gets bad gas mileage (180 miles to 17.5 gal on high way) I have been reading about the the egr valve and have heard if you disconecit it the engine will run hotter.Iam not shure if the timeing is advaced at all to compensate but the engine will ping once in a great while at WOT.I allways run 89 octaine. I have done all of the regular stuff like: cap and roter wires, (accel 8.8 spiral core) plugs fuel presure reg. fuel filter pcv and even a fule pump. I just baught a new set of injectors for it and will install them this weekend to see if it helps. All of my emmitions are gone egr, egr vacume solinolds air pump , the air valve thing on the back of the engine. will this make my engine run worse? I can answer any questions you guys have towards this ,please help thanks. John Reed

Emissions Question ... Help!!!

When I bought my 86 with a 302EFI the Air pump was already removed, The guy placed it in the back of the truck before I took off with it. He's own the truck since it was new with same MPG with orw.out pump. Since then I've dumped the Cats to run True duals with 12" packs, and took a small freeze plug with a over sized washer and bolt To cap the Place The tubes mounted to the back of the head that ran to the cats to stop the leak. I've gained a few MPG off and on hiway

Emissions Question ... Help!!!

thanks for the reply, So, do you think that the fuel injection and the emmissions stuff will operate seperatly on my 302(ex: the emmissions not working won't screw up the air/fuel mixture)? and also, is that bull about the egr causing problems with the engine pinging? thanks John Reed

Emissions Question ... Help!!!

John,
Please take a moment and post this in the proper forum. This is the '80-'86 Forum.

You may get even more help from others who have the same truck as yourself.

Thanks,
Chuck
