I've seen the same type of magnets advertised for home water systems to eliminate corrosion, calcium and scale buildup. I asked our corrosion technologist at work about it to see what the deal was. He said the theory behind it was scientificaly sound, polarizing ions. But he added that the magnet would have to be as big as your house before it would actually do anything. I suspect the same is true for fuel magnets.
BTW, the "clothes pins" guy may be on to something. If you consider the "clothes pins" as *cooling fins*. I think wood is a good conductor of heat. Must be why it burns so good, LOL!
