4x4 Low Range

Might be showing my ignorance, but had my '89 F-150 4x4 w/ 300 6 cyl, manual hubs, 4spd manual out in the snow & ice the other day. Locks in and goes from 2H to 4H with ease & everything seems to be working fine. Tried to shift into 4L but it won't shift into that or neutral. Any ideas why?

Is that one of the ones you have to pull to one side to get past 4H?

gatesj might be onto something, but my borg warner tcase does the same thing. you have to coast backward, and the it'll go into neutral/4lo. probably time for some new shift forks.

Yes, you pull to the side for neutral, then down to 4L. Try to pull sideways but it won't budge. I was at a standstill so I'll try the slow rolling approach.
